Pro Blogger – 31 Days to Build a Better Blog
Do you ever wish someone would just tell you what you should do??
I am a girl who likes to be in control, but at times I have thought it would be nice for someone to come along and give me a step by step plan for increasing the success of my website.
Gourmet Getaways has been live for 3 ½ years. I am fortune in that I have a good working relationship with a number of PR companies, Advertising agencies, Tourism Departments and fellow bloggers. I have a very engaged audience which is evident by the average time each reader spends on my site, the number of pages read by each visitor, the great responses to competitions and my click through rate on advertising.
…but I always want MORE!!
More lovely readers, higher google ranking, more comments, more trips away… I just want MORE!
I want my website to achieve its full potential!
After all the years publishing, and publicising I had exhausted my ideas of ways to “boost” Gourmet Getaways presence online.
Add to that, google and facebook changing their algorithms, SEO constantly changing, the emergence of Google+ and Google Pages, Instagram killing it in social media images circles. Sometimes I find it hard to keep up, or even to know what I should be paying attention too!
I needed a step by step approach.
I am worried that to stagnate in a changing social media environment could start a downward slide into the blogging abyss, or that google will bury my site in some unreachable corner of the blogosphere!
Anyway, enough about why I searched for help.
I found exactly what I needed, written by the experts.
I used to follow Darren Rowse on his Digital Photography School blog, this was at a time when blogging was a brand new concept! He has always been way ahead of the game and most importantly, his websites have always been leaders! His writing style is easy to read, he uses workshops and tutorials to guide the reader, and everything is very manageable.
So I took a leap, albeit a little leap. I ordered the ebook “31 Days to Build a Better Blog” and I love it!!
Finally I have a path mapped out for my website and I am confident I will build traffic and connections.
I have already instigated two of the ProBlogger suggestions and I can’t believe that after reading the suggestion I had neglected these for so long!
Sometimes it is the attention to detail that we miss when we are doing something everyday.
Day 1
The Elevator Pitch
I use a version of my “elevator pitch” on my “About Me” page. After reading the content on Pro-Blogger I realised my “About Me” pages was wildly out of date! It was in need of a complete rewrite. I also needed to consider an even more succinct version of the pitch for all my social media pages.
The book goes into far more detail than I can here. It lists uses for your elevator pitch in printed communications, conversation and social media. It is very important to have a clear vision of who you are and what you are selling to both readers and marketing agencies.
Day 3
11 Ways to Promote a Blog Post
How many ways do you promote your stories?
I usually use only three of the methods listed by Pro Blogger… that is pretty pathetic! I thought I was doing well.
a/ I use my social media to send out notifications to followers
b/ Comment on fellow bloggers stories
c/ Using a social book marking site such as Stumble On
I am missing out on 8 other ways to promote stories!
…and I only use some social media… and some social bookmarking sites.
I guess the number one thing I am getting out of the “31 days book” is that I need to be consistent and thorough with the marketing of my site and stories. I have been a bit haphazard in my approach. I believed that if you supply good content the reader traffic and the marketing opportunities would look after themselves.
I have neglected to use the great content to drive people and opportunities to my website. This is what I am being taught through the Pro Blogger Book.
Oh… and I also download the Pro Blogger eBook Secrets of Blogging your way to a Six Figure Salary which is now on my iPad for when I can catch a spare moment.
Now I am torn between wanting to read more of the ProBlogger Books and actually writing content for Gourmet Getaways! …Oh and yes I do have all of these books… and I don’t know why I thought I knew what I was doing before I read them!!!
Success is never guaranteed; naturally success is dependent on many things, the individual, the product, the market, a bit of luck etc… but having a clear, step by step path that 31 days to Build a Better Blog gives is a step in the right direction.
Take a look and tell me what you think. Do you have any secrets blogging tips to share??
