Have you ever wondered if you can grow truffles in your backyard? I have to say although I am smitten with the fungi, the thought of DYI truffles had never crossed my mind. Now I am not only looking for a site to plant an inoculated oak tree, I have also found the answer to why some wines are so cheap! What is the source of my new found knowledge, I hear you asking?

I have been absorbed in the pages of the Good Food website. The Good Food site was launched in December 2012, and is the culmination of content from all the Fairfax’s food and wine properties. It has everything I used to love about the Sydney Morning Heralds Good Living section when I was a Sydneysider and so much more.
The Good Food website is a one-stop destination for food-lovers. I travel frequently between our capital cities and Good Food features restaurant reviews and news on the local dining scene in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra. It is such a great dining resource for me. I am rarely in one place long enough to get a feel for local dining trends so help from the Good Food website is exactly what I need, especially because I want every meal to be spectacular.
If I am enjoying a lovely meal I will naturally want to compliment the experience with a suitable wine. The Good Food website has wine reviews, and even a section where you can “Ask Cathy Gowdie”, the Wine Agony Aunt, if you are having any “wine dilemmas”. Or perhaps you interested in purchasing some wine online from the Good Food Cellar door!
Good Food is everything the passionate foodie needs – from what to cook tonight, where to eat, wine suggestions and news on the local and national bar scene.

For foodies with particular interests there are also recipe collections dedicated to school lunches, vegetarian diets and those who need to avoid gluten. Most importantly, if you have a sweet tooth, there is a luscious dessert collection which is an absolutely feast for the eyes.
I was very excited to notice the food section features recipes from top chefs such as Neil Perry, Karen Martini, Jill Dupleix and Frank Camorra. I have been looking for a rich homemade baked beans recipe recently, and I stumbled across Frank Camorra’s Baked Beans with Maple Syrup and Balsamic, doesn’t that just make your mouth water. I knew from the moment I laid eyes on the lush glossy image I would have to share the recipe with readers. After all it is the season for warming comfort food.
Looking through the wine selection on Good Food I noticed that the 2010 Katie Hill Pinot Noir is trending at the moment. I love a nice plumby red in winter and even as I am reading the review I am imagining myself curled up under a blanket in front of the fireplace eating a bowl of Frank Camorras beans and sipping on my glass of Pinot. Naturally I will have my iPad on my knee so I can continue to catch up of the latest good food news.
I think it is fair to say I have a new “go to” website for celebrity chef recipes, restaurant review, wine talk and general food news. Before you pop over and check it out I have a competition to announce brought to you by Good Food and Nuffnang.
Five lucky readers can choose one of three different guidebooks from The Age & Sydney Morning Herald to win.
Good Food Under $30 (Sydney edition)
Good Food Under $30 (Melbourne edition)
Good Wine Guide 2013.
All you need to do is tell me which recipe interests you the most on Goodfood.com.au. Leave your answer in the comments section below and nominate the guidebook you wish to receive. The competition is open to all Australian residents. The winners will be announced on facebook and Gourmet Getaways on Saturday 6th July 2013.
